Melanie is an independent organic inspector and evaluator with over a decade of experience in organic certification, having worked in the sector since 2010. Melanie will be using her experience to lead a workshop on transitioning to organics, and/or implementing organic practices.

2:30 – 3:15pm: Market Analysis & Updates with Dr. Laura Telford
Laura has spent the past 14 years as Manitoba Agriculture’s Organic Specialist. Her priorities are to work to ensure that organic operators have the skills and the market intelligence they need to build resilient and profitable businesses. She will be providing key updates and statistics about the scope and trends within the organic industry.

3:30 – 4:30pm: Developing High-Phosphorus Organic Fertilizers with Dr. Joanne Thiessen Martens
Dr. Thiessen Martens is a Professor at the University of Manitoba. She completed both undergrad and PhD degrees at the University. Her research focuses on nutrient flows in agroecosystems, including agronomic and environmental aspects. She is especially interested in phosphorus dynamics in soils and plants, as well as nutrient dynamics in all kinds of ecological farming systems. Joanne will be presenting her research findings on Struvite, Compost, and other Organic Phosphorus Management.

Canada’s largest indoor farm show will kick off on Tuesday, January 20 2026. The three day show will
include over 580 exhibitors with both indoor and outdoor displays at the Keystone Centre, in Brandon
Manitoba.

Five Things to Know Five Days Before the Show:

1. This year’s theme is Produced on the Prairies. The theme will be evident throughout the show as
we bring you products, equipment and speakers who got their start on the prairies. At the top of the
main ramp you will find our one-of-a-kind Produced on the Prairies Market featuring ten different
local food and beverage products each day.

2. The Kickoff Breakfast will take place at the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba Dome Building from
7:30am-8:45am on Tuesday, January 20th and is presented by Heritage Co-Op. The Murray Auto
Group shuttle bus will pick you up at your vehicle and deliver you to the doors of the Keystone
Centre you can find the safe and secure, complimentary coat check at the south end of the Flynn
Arena.

3. Our Innovation Showcase features seven categories and 28 contenders, and is presented by the
seven brands of Glacier FarmMedia. Patrons can read all about the innovations at
https://www.agdays.com/innovations/ Then come to the show to ask questions, check out products
first hand and see how these innovations might fit in their operations. Look for the green light bulbs
hanging in the show to signify Innovation Showcase entries. The Winners of each category will be
announced on Wednesday, January 21st at 10am.

4. This year’s complimentary speaking program includes a line up you can not miss! For all the details

Manitoba Young Speakers for Agriculture (MYSA) is pleased to announce the finalists in both the junior
and senior categories of the competition, held in conjunction with Manitoba Ag Days. The preliminary
rounds of the competition were held via video presentation. The junior group included a dozen
participants, aged 11-15 years old while the senior division had 18 participants aged 16-24.

The top four speakers in the junior category, in alphabetical order, are: Gabriella Fewings, Janelle
Gilmore, Leah Phillips and William Derksen. In the senior category the top four speakers, in alphabetical
order, are: Bianca Byers, Eve Campbell, Kaitlyn Hunt-Delaurier and Lillian Seward. In addition to their
cash prize, the top four in each category have been invited to the Manitoba Ag Days speaking stage for
the final round of the competition, which will be held on January 20, 2026. Remi Campbell and Andrea
Ronceray are the Runners Up in the junior division while Noah Granger and Halee Piasta were the
Runners Up in the senior division. The Runners Up each receive a cash prize.

“This competition gives young people the opportunity to share their perspectives on agriculture and
develop valuable communication skills,” said MYSA committee member Leanne Sprung. “The passion,
knowledge, and preparation shown by all participants was impressive.” The junior judging team was
composed of Dr. Kendra Elliott, Lindsey Andronak and Jared Munro. The senior judging team was made
up of Danielle Meloni Isfeld, Betty Sawatzky and Jayden Buchanan. “I was really impressed with all of
the speakers – the future of agriculture is bright!”, commented judge Jared Munro.

Manitoba Young Speakers for Agriculture aims to encourage youth leadership, build public speaking
confidence, and foster a deeper understanding of agriculture’s role in Manitoba and beyond. The
competition is held with the collaboration and support of Manitoba Agriculture, Manitoba 4-H Council,
Agriculture in the Classroom Manitoba, the University of Manitoba and Assiniboine College. For more

The final round of speeches for the Manitoba Young Speakers for Agriculture will be held on Tuesday,

Manitoba Ag Days is an annual three-day exposition of agriculture production expertise, technology and
equipment that is held at the Keystone Centre in Brandon Manitoba. The speaking program will take
