Dr. Harmeet Singh Chawla is an Assistant Professor of Plant Genomics and Breeding in the Department of Plant Science at the University of Manitoba.

His research focuses on developing disease-resistant and climate-resilient canola and wheat varieties using genomics, molecular breeding, and field-based screening.

He works closely with producers and industry to translate research outcomes into practical breeding tools and on-farm solutions.

Dr. Chawla leads several collaborative projects across Canada and internationally, with a strong focus on Verticillium stripe resistance and genomic selection to accelerate canola improvement.

For the first time, cabbage seedpod weevil went from being at very low numbers in annual surveys in Manitoba to very noticeable, and in some cases at economic levels in canola fields.

Join John as he shares an overview of cabbage seedpod weevil, how they feed on canola, how to monitor them, and important management considerations.
