Doug Chorney, Chief Commissioner, Canadian Grain Commission 

Doug Chorney was first appointed to the Canadian Grain Commission in February 2017, in the role of Chief Commissioner. Before joining the Canadian Grain Commission, Mr. Chorney served as Keystone Agricultural Producers (KAP) President from 2011 to 2015. Prior to this, he was Keystone Agricultural Producers Vice-President and served as Chair of Keystone Agricultural Producers’s Workplace and Employment Committee. Mr. Chorney served on the board of directors of Manitoba Agricultural Services Corporation from June 2015 to February 2017. As well, he served on the Agricultural Risk Management Review Task Force in 2015. From 2011 to 2015, Mr. Chorney served on the board of directors of the Canadian Federation of Agriculture. He also served as member of the Manitoba Advisory Council on Workplace Safety and Health from 2012 to 2017. Mr. Chorney is a former Vice-Chair and Board Member of the Canadian Agricultural Human Resource Council. Mr. Chorney is a professional engineer and holds an agricultural engineering degree from the University of Manitoba. He farms 1,500 acres of cereal, oilseed and vegetable crops near East Selkirk, Manitoba.

Honourable Derek Johnson Minister
Manitoba Agriculture

Derek Johnson is currently the Minister of Agriculture and MLA for the constituency of Interlake – Gimli. He was elected to his first term as the MLA for Interlake in April 2016 and re-elected in the new constituency of Interlake-Gimli in September 2019.

A proud resident of the Interlake with farming roots, Derek is eager to put his experience in business and municipal government to work
for the people of Interlake-Gimli as their MLA and their Minister of Agriculture.
Derek served as a councillor for the R.M. of St. Laurent from 2010 to 2014.

During his term on council, his responsibilities included Finance, Drainage, and Emergency Services. He also served on the board for the West Interlake Planning District. Derek earned a reputation as a positive, results-driven leader through his dedication to the R.M. during the unprecedented flood of 2011.

For the 8 years prior, Derek was a Financial Advisor serving area residents, and an Assistant Branch Manager for a local financial institution.

Derek was born and raised in Oak Point, where his family has resided for the past four generations. Derek now lives on the shores of Lake Manitoba with his wife, Tara and has two adult children.

The Honourable Heather Stefanson was elected as the MLA for Tuxedo in 2000 and re-elected in 2003, 2007, 2011, 2016 and 2019. In 2016, Stefanson was appointed Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Keeper of the Great Seal of the Province of Manitoba, and Deputy Premier. In 2018, she was appointed Minister of Families and retained her role as Deputy Premier.

In January 2021, Stefanson was appointed Minister of Health and Seniors Care before running successfully to become the leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba. She was sworn in as Manitoba’s 24th Premier on November 2, 2021 and is the first woman to hold that office.

An investment advisor, Stefanson earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Ontario before completing her financial education at the Canadian Securities Institute. She also worked as an advisor in the offices of the Prime Minister, the federal Minister of Agriculture and the provincial Minister of Education. She and her husband Jason have two children.

Raylyn Koshowski, Spruce Creek 4-H Club, Dauphin, MB

Raylyn Koshowski resides in the RM of Dauphin, MB and attends grade eleven at the Dauphin Regional Comprehensive Secondary School.  She is a member of the Spruce Creek 4-H club and is an active volunteer in her community. With having family members who are producers, she has an awareness of the food supply chain issues and food waste that occurs all along the food supply chain.  Raylyn advocates for more awareness of local issues and works first hand with those affected by a lack of access to food.  Raylyn recently participated in the 2022 Canadian Young Speakers for Agriculture competition in Toronto in November 2022 in the senior category.  Raylyn spends her time working part time, playing in the female rural hockey league, playing piano, soccer, curling, spending time with her two German Shepherd dogs and is a member of her school band and student council.
