Denis Tremorin, Director of Sustainability,  Pulse Canada @pulsecanada @denispulse

Denis is Director of Sustainability at Pulse Canada and is a Professional Agrologist with 14 years of experience. Denis received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Agroecology and Soil Science from the University of Manitoba. Denis’ role at Pulse Canada is to develop and implement a sustainability strategy in order to develop tactics for each of Pulse Canada’s work areas. Denis explores the role that pulses can play in improving the environmental sustainability of the food and agricultural systems. Denis also serves as Chair of Field to Market Canada, an organization focused on developing metrics and tools that enable measurement of environmental performance of Canadian crops.

Ben Hamm, Farm Management Specialist, Manitoba Agriculture

Ben Hamm grew up on a dairy farm in Rainy River, Ontario.  After moving to Manitoba when he was 12, his family moved away from dairy and switched to a beef cattle operation.  Ben has been very connected with agriculture and grew up taking small side jobs in the hog, dairy and poultry industries.  In 2003 he decided to return to school to pursue a career in agriculture.  Ben graduated with an Animal Science Degree from the University of Manitoba in 2007 and started full time as a Business Development Specialist with Manitoba Agriculture that same year.  Over the years, this position has turned into his current position as a Farm Management Specialist. In this position Bens focus is production economics for forage and livestock. He has a keen interest in risk management and has included risk management analysis in all of the current cost of production worksheets.  Ben also owns and helps manage a 3000 acre mixed farm with a cow calf operation of 250 head with his dad and brothers

Eric Olson, Farm Management Consultant, MNP @MNP_Ag 

Eric Olson, BSAg, PAg, is a Farm Management Consultant working out of MNP’s Winnipeg office. Working closely with his clients, Eric helps owners of small and large farm operations make effective business decisions so they can increase the profitability of their farms and enhance their competitive edge. With more than 30 years working in the agricultural industry, Eric has an unparalleled understanding of local and international market conditions, which he uses to help producers strategically develop their operations. His services include assisting with strategic planning — helping clients identify and take action toward long-term goals — as well as engaging in business planning to set goals for the next one to three years.  Eric uses his extensive client base and in-depth industry knowledge to review clients’ operations and compare them to benchmarks. These valuable reviews provide producers with the information they need to grow their operations effectively and efficiently. In 1989, Eric earned a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Manitoba. That same year he was designated a Professional Agrologist.

Krista Thomas, Vice President of Trade Policy and Seed Innovation, Canada Grains Council @cdagraincouncil

Krista Thomas is the Vice President of Trade Policy and Seed Innovation with the Canada Grains Council. In this capacity Krista has led policy development on issues related to biotechnology and plant breeding innovation. Krista is an active leader in international industry forums such as the International Grain Trade Coalition, and has presented in forums including APEC, the Global LLP Initiative, and WTO. Prior to joining the CGC Krista held various positions with the Canadian Federal Government, including with the Canada-US Regulatory Cooperation Council, and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Krista holds an M.Sc. in Plant Agriculture from the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada.

Xiben Wang, Plant Pathologist, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada @AAFC_Canada

Dr. Wang is a plant pathologist at the Morden Research and Development Centre, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. His main research focus is on cereal diseases, mainly Fusarium head blight and leaf spot diseases, as part of collaborative studies with colleagues across Canada.  He is currently involved with research on plant resistance for cereal disease control and developing practical integrated solutions for crop disease management. Dr. Wang also has broad interests in research related to soil microbial diversity, cereal pathogen diagnosis and detection, pathogen virulence and genetic diversity.

Lorne Greiger, Director – Technical Sales, PAMI @PAMI_Machinery

Lorne Grieger’s passion for agriculture began with family farm roots in the Swan Valley. His agricultural engineering degree from the University of Manitoba has provided multiple opportunities in the agricultural production and processing sectors.

Lorne joined PAMI to return to a career in agriculture. Over the past 20 years Lorne has broadened his expertise through performing and managing PAMI projects related to:

  • agricultural equipment testing, research and development,
  • evaluation of bioenergy systems, as well as,
  • research into grain production, harvesting and storage techniques.
