Assiniboine Community College’s research team is working to achieve a sustainable tomorrow. The next generation of greenhouse farming requires net-zero to net-positive environmental impact while producing food, meeting future food security challenges and achieving production targets. Evidence-based applied research provides a planet-conscious growing system by utilizing local climate energy to maintain a growing environment for producing food year around. Join Dr. Rao as he outlines the potential of commercially viable, economically affordable and environmentally manageable greenhouse technology.

Soybean yield potential was realized with yield monitors hitting 50, 60 and even 70 bu/ac across Manitoba in 2022. What factors led to the record setting crop? Kristen will review the environmental conditions and agronomic management choices that impact soybean yield potential on the prairies, through a combination of field observations and research data.
There is an increasing need to prove what you say when it comes to making claims pertaining to the environment. Pulses have the advantage of fixing their own nitrogen, making them a sustainable crop in terms of their environmental impacts. This is a key marketing message for our industry; Canadian agriculture can lead to the use of transparent data that will satisfy the demands of various sectors. In addition, Denis will show how these data sets can be used to position Canadian crops in different markets.
When it comes to soybeans they are the king of sustainability. Soybeans not only fix their own nitrogen but they are considered a low nitrous oxide emitter; which means from a sustainability point of view, soybeans will be a crop for many years to come. Mario will delve into his research and share his findings. Join Mario as he explains why soybeans should be in your rotation and why you won’t be able to afford not to.
Farmers in the Manitoba Pulse and Soybean Growers On-Farm Network have been evaluating new products and practices for soybean and pea production through replicated field-scale strip trials across the province since 2012. While individual trials help answer questions on a farm-by-farm basis, the aggregated results can help inform management decisions. Laura will dive into hot topics like seeding rates, row widths and foliar fungicide application decisions.
Since the summer of 2020, fertilizer markets have experienced a period of price and supply volatility unlike anything seen in its history. Josh will explain what happened to get us where we are, as well as give insight as to where we might be going and what to watch for.
