Manitoba Ag Days Gives Back Deadline Approaching

Manitoba Ag Days enters its second decade of investing in rural communities and agriculture education through the Ag Days Gives Back program.  100% of the funds raised through the Manitoba Ag Days 50/50 are used to support K-12 ag education, post secondary ag education and community organizations throughout Manitoba and Saskatchewan.  This represents a commitment of over $362,500 since the program’s inception in 2013.

Thanks to strong public support, the 2024 Ag Days Gives Back community giving and scholarship programs have both been expanded! “This year we have more than doubled the amount of community grants available, thanks to the generous support for our 50/50.”  said Hannah Minshull, Ag Days Gives Back committee chairperson. “We are excited  to offer seventeen individual grants of $2000 to non-profit organizations to support their continued operation.”

The scholarship criteria has also expanded and now includes any post secondary education and training related to agriculture. “We wanted to recognize the wide variety of jobs and career paths that contribute to the agriculture and agri-food sector, and this scholarship allows the applicants to explain how their training or studies, whatever they might be, connect to the ag industry.” commented Minshull. Three scholarships of $2000 each will be presented at the 2024 show.

The deadline for both community grant applications and scholarship applications is November 15th. Winners will be announced at the 2024 show in January.

Two Manitoba icons are joining forces! Manitoba Ag Days and Great Tastes of Manitoba are excited to announce a partnership that will help bring stories of agricultural innovation and accomplishment to audiences across Canada.

In celebration of the 35th anniversary season of Great Tastes of Manitoba, the producers of Manitoba’s most watched cooking show will partner with Manitoba Ag Days to create a series of documentaries about the community of passionate people who work in Manitoba’s agricultural and agri-food sector. There is no shortage of stories to tell when it comes to the food, beverage, fuel, fibre, equipment, technology and brain trust that the local agriculture and agri-food sector offers to the world.

“Produced on the Prairies” will premiere at the 2024 Manitoba Ag Days event and will be followed by broadcasts on CTV Winnipeg and The Rural Channel in fall 2024.

“In past seasons, we have primarily showcased folks who work in food production – livestock and grain farmers – from across the province. We’ve compiled over sixty stories about farms and agricultural communities and everyone we’ve met has been so welcoming and genuine in their passion for what they do” says Great Tastes of Manitoba’s Senior Producer, Donalee Jones. “Now, to be able to share the stories, not just about the food produced on the prairies, but of all the ways in which agriculture impacts the life of an average Manitoban, is a very exciting opportunity.” Viewers will get an exclusive behind the scenes look at a world of agriculture that goes well beyond the farm gate. One in twenty jobs in Manitoba is in the agriculture and agri-food sector.

Great Tastes of Manitoba is a farm-to-table cooking series hosted by popular Winnipeg media personality, Dez Daniels. In every episode Dez is joined by a local food expert who shares recipes made with the nutritious and affordable ingredients produced by Manitoba’s farmers. In addition to the delicious recipes, viewers will be taken on a behind the scenes journey into the world of agriculture where they will be introduced to farmers and agricultural communities in our province. Great Tastes has been a staple in the hearts and homes of Manitobans since its establishment in 1991. The series is produced by Frank Digital with funding provided by the Government of Canada and Manitoba Agriculture through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership and Manitoba’s farmers and ranchers through their non-profit industry associations: Manitoba Beef Producers, Hello Canola, Manitoba Chicken, Manitoba Crop Alliance, Manitoba Pork, Manitoba Pulse & Soybean Growers, Manitoba Turkey Producers.

Manitoba Ag Days is Canada’s largest indoor farm show. The 47th annual event will take place Jan 16 – 18th in Brandon, Manitoba. The three-day exposition includes world class speakers, and over 550 exhibitors. During the show, the 540,000 square foot Keystone Centre is transformed into a hub for all things agricultural. “Manitoba Ag Days takes great pride in bringing the ag community together. We strive to create a welcoming environment where farmers can come together to do business, face-to-face, with ag manufacturers, companies and retailers. They can find the latest technology and services to build their businesses.” explained Manitoba Ag Days General Manager, Kristen Phillips.

“It is great to see these two organizations that are so passionate about agriculture come together to celebrate all of the people, products, economic development, job opportunities that are Produced on the Prairies.” said Brad Crammond, Co-Chair of the Manitoba Ag Days Board of Directors. “We can’t wait to share the first episodes at Manitoba Ag Days in January!”

Manitoba Ag Days Invests in Life Saving AEDs at the Keystone Centre

BRANDON, MB (April 24th, 2023) – Manitoba Ag Days has invested in the replacement of the AEDs (automated external defibrillators) at the Keystone Centre.

The Keystone Centre is equipped with five of the easy-to-use, life-saving devices located throughout the building. Funding for the AEDs was provided through the Manitoba Ag Days Gives Back Program and has covered the cost of replacing all five AEDs throughout the Keystone Centre.

“The Keystone Centre is extremely grateful to Manitoba Ag Days for their generous sponsorship of these life-saving devices. Manitoba Ag Days is one of many world-class events that brings thousands of people with diverse circumstances to the Keystone Centre, and our ability to maintain up-to-date first aid equipment is as vital to our ability to host these events as any other aspect of what we do to ensure our guests have the best possible experience when they visit the Keystone Centre,” stated Connie Lawrence, assistant general manager at the Keystone Centre.  “AEDs are an absolute necessity, for staff, participants and spectators alike.”

“The Keystone Centre truly is the premiere facility to host an agricultural event and we are so lucky to have this facility in Western Manitoba. It was an easy decision for us to partner with the Keystone Centre on these upgrades.” said Kristen Phillips, general manager of Manitoba Ag Days. “The AEDs in the building were about to expire, and Manitoba Ag Days wanted to make sure that the complex was safe not only for our exhibitors, patrons, and guests, but for all users of this amazing complex.”

“The funds for this investment came from the Manitoba Ag Days Gives Back Program.  This program is funded through admission ticket sales and our yearly 50/50 draw.  Through the generous support of our industry for our show and our lottery we are able to reinvest in the communities where our patrons and exhibitors live,” says Hannah Minshull, chair of the Ag Days Gives Back Program. “Our theme for the 2023 show was farmer safety, health and wellness.  Supporting the upgrades to the AEDs in the Keystone Centre was a natural fit for the proceeds of this years’ show.”

Manitoba Ag Days will run from January 16th – 18th, 2024 throughout the Keystone Centre complex in Brandon, Manitoba.  For more information go to: www.agdays.com
