• AgDays 2027: January 19, 20 and 21 - 9am to 5pm Daily

Uncategorized

Today would have been the first day of our 2021 Manitoba Ag Days show. The red carpet would be laid, the booths would be perfectly displayed and our bellies would be full of breakfast from our great partners at the Canad Inn.  The doors would open and the crowds would pack in and we would spend the next three days learning, socializing, communicating, selling and engaging in all things agriculture.  Manitoba Ag Days takes great pride in being Canada’s Largest Indoor Farm Show! We know we cannot be together this year but that doesn’t mean we cannot celebrate our industry, our incredible exhibitors and sponsors and the fact that agriculture never stops!! Manitoba Ag Days remains committed to Ag Innovation, Ag Education and supporting the communities where our exhibitors and patrons live.

Innovation is at the forefront of Agriculture and we wanted to maintain our momentum with our Innovation Showcase! We had 7 categories that companies could enter their new product, item, service or invention into.  For more details go to www.agdays.com/innovations With no show we wanted to assist these companies launch their products all while keeping our patrons informed and up to date.  We surveyed our clientele and every survey told us the same thing.  Farmers do not want virtual events, they want the ability to socialize and interact with the exhibitor.  Based on those survey responses we decided to provide the information on three mediums 1) A print publication 2) on our website at www.agdays.com and 3) across our 3 social platforms (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram). Manitoba Ag Days published and produced its very own Publication presented by Farm Credit Canada. It is a jammed packed book full of information including our 2021 Innovation Showcase entrants, a full Exhibitor Directory and “Ag Days Specials” being offered by our Sponsors and Exhibitors for the full month of January! Producers in Manitoba and Saskatchewan received this publication at the start of the month to kick off our campaign!  The publication is also available on our website in a digital format at www.agdays.com  Our website is full of information including all of the components of the publication but with more details.  Exhibitors in the Innovation Showcase and those running Ag Days Specials were able to load hyperlinks and videos and brochures right onto our site.  We were able to offer a lot more prize money for the Innovation Showcase this year! Without a physical show we were able to partner with Glacier Farm Media to reward $1000.00 to every finalist, $500 to every runner up and then offer a Grand Prize Award of $15,000.00 for the Grand Prize Winner of the Innovation Showcase.  We wanted to get producers involved with the Showcase and so we have a voting site set up to vote for the Farmer’s Choice Grand Prize Champion who will receive $10,000.00 Producers can head to www.agday.com/vote2021 with voting closing on January 22nd, 2021.

The final component to our deliverables this year is our Ag Days Gives Back Community Giving Program.  Typically at our live in person show we would have a 50/50 held at the Keystone Centre but with no show we are holding our first ever online 50/50.  (LGCA 4206-RF-35050) The funds raised through our Ag Days Gives Back Program are going to go to our 3 scholarship recipients, Ag In The Classroom –Manitoba for their virtual Manitoba Ag Days Adventure in 2021 and to 15 early learning centres throughout the province.  The goal of our community giving program is to support the communities where our patrons and exhibitors live! We would encourage you to help us support ag related charities by buying your ticket at www.agdays.com/buy5050 Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $20. Hurry as ticket sales end January 21st, 2021!

Tune into our website and stay connected with us on our social platforms.  We have a ton of great information to deliver this week (all month actually) in a really fun and unique way! Stay safe and be well so that we can all be together again, stronger than ever!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE  By Agriculture in the Classroom – Manitoba

Agriculture Education Still Supported by Ag Days in 2021

Brandon, MB (January 2021) – 2020 was far cry from a usual year for everyone, and Agriculture in the Classroom – Manitoba (AITC-M) is no different. With their flagship in-person programming, like Manitoba Ag Days Adventure, on hold at this time, AITC-M staff has pivoted to create more virtual and at-home experiences for teachers and students.

AITC-M’s usual Manitoba Ag Days Adventure is a program designed to help grade 7 and 8 students think globally and act locally about agriculture, food security and agriculture careers. Students learn about global food production and Canada’s import/export of agricultural goods. They then move on to a scavenger hunt at the Keystone Centre to explore agricultural careers and the importance of the local industry. In 2021 AITC-M’s regular program isn’t possible, but they have other plans.

“Thanks to funding from Manitoba Ag Days, we can create a fully blended program that can happen in class or at home, anywhere in the province,” said Sue Clayton, AITC-M’s Executive Director. “Although nothing can replace the value of the in-person programming we normally do at Ag Days, we consider this a fabulous opportunity to develop something we can use year after year and reach even more students province-wide.”

AITC-M plans to pilot a virtual Manitoba Ag Days resource this year. The new resource will include the following:

  • An interactive virtual eLearning component
  • A video
  • A critical-thinking activity

“We’re proud to continue our support for AITC-M this year,” said Kristen Phillips, Manitoba Ag Days General Manager. “We can’t wait to see how they adapt their wonderful Manitoba Ag Days Adventure program to be used in classrooms and are looking forward to a time when we can invite AITC-M and the students back to the Keystone Centre for an in-person Ag Days in the future.”

Although this school year looks different for AITC-M, agriculture education, and conversations about food production and food security have never been more on the radar of educators in Manitoba. Thanks to the ongoing support of partners like Manitoba Ag Days, AITC-M can continue delivering accurate, balanced and current resources and activities to teachers and students in the 2020-21 school year. And with the desire educators have for more virtual in classroom or at-home learning opportunities, the need for the work that AITC-M does has never been greater.
