Manitoba Ag Day’s 40th Anniversary Speaker Program Released
It’s been two years in the making and you don’t want to miss this line up of over 60 speakers showcased in the FCC and MNP theatre throughout Manitoba Ag Day’s 40th Anniversary show taking place January 17-19 at Brandon’s Keystone Centre. “We are excited to be covering a variety of topics highlighting the opportunities, challenges and future innovations in our industry. Our program committee has invested a great amount of time and energy researching and finding quality speakers on the hottest topics. Social media and sharing your story is all the rage these days and things are no different when it comes to agriculture and advocating agriculture in general.” Stated General Manager Kristen Phillips. Manitoba Ag Days is particularly excited about the addition of Terry O’Reilly from CBC’s Under the Influence” as the keynote speaker at the event to share his experiences on how to “Harvest the art of Storytelling” to help educate consumers and tell our story about agriculture.
The 2017 program is packed full of dynamic speakers from a wide array of backgrounds from private industry, to government, academia, young leaders and producers themselves sharing their expertise. Angela Santiago from Alberta’s Little Potato company will join the lineup on Tuesday afternoon sharing her story on how she and her farther built a business from a bath tub of creamer potatoes and delivering to local markets to creating a unique market and brand of the little creamer potatoes with distribution across Canada and the USA.
“Market Outlook speakers are always popular and this year we have Thomas Mielke form Oil World flying over from Germany to highlight the growing dependence of consumers worldwide on Canadian Canola oil as well as share the latest supply and demand estimates and give outlook on the 2017/18 oil market.” Stated Andrea Guthrie, Media Coordinator. Saskatchewan’s own Larry Weber will follow up Tuesday afternoon with a grain market outlook.
Agronomy, precision farming, tax tips, estate planning, record keeping, weather forecasting, climate change, carbon pricing, farm safety and grain storage are just a few of the topics that will be covered. Lance Stockebrugger will join the program Wednesday morning to discuss using corporate tax rates as an effective tool in your overall tax management strategy. He will also explore the importance of building strong relationships with vendors and customers.
Safety has always been an important element of Manitoba Ag Days and this year’s program will include Curtis Weber on Tuesday afternoon in the MNP theatre. Triumph over tragedy, Curtis will challenge us how to think differently about safety after his near fatal workplace accident as a young 17-year-old and his journey from that day forward.
After one of the longer harvest season’s in recent years across much of Western Canada “Will the weather extremes persist across the prairies”? Back by popular demand, World Weather Inc’s. Drew Learner will speak on Thursday morning. Drew is well known for his 35 years of experience forecasting international weather along with detailed long and short term forecast for the agriculture industry. Drew will provide a quick review of current soil conditions and details about the various weather patterns prevailing for spring and summer 2017.
