Manitoba Ag Days Seminar Session Highlights: Wednesday

In the FCC theatre, at 9:00 am we begin “Bomb Proofing Your Business”. You can look forward to hearing Tax and Management Strategies for the good, bad and ugly years with Lance Stockbrugger. Following Lance, John Stewart , Partner with D’Arcy & Deacon LLP  will talk on “Street Proofing the Farm for the 5D’s” (Divorce, Death, Disability, Disagreement and Disaster).  At 10:30 am Darren Bond and Roy Arnott will discuss cost of production on your grain farm with “Show Me The Money & How To Get It”.  To finish the morning, David Derwin, Portfolio Manager, Commodities PI Financial Corp will share how to understand and implement marketing strategies to stay ahead of the curve and enhance your marketing returns.

“ Machinery, Technology & Agriculture” will be the topic for the afternoon. Scott Day, Agronomist for Fall Line Capital and producer of Treelane Farms Ltd.  will share his experience from the Souris Valley to the Silicon Valley.  At 1:45 pm a Big Data & Precision Agriculture panel discussion will take place involving Brenda Tjaden-Lepp, Co-founder and CEO of Farmlink Marketing Solutions, Mitch Rezansoff, Integrated Solutions Manager for Enns Brothers, and Wade Barnes, President and CEO of Farmers Edge.  Following the panel, Matthew Johnson, owner of M3 Aerial Productions will share information on UAVs in The Sky-What you need to know.  Closing out the day in the FCC Theatre, we welcome Terry O’Reilly, host and writer of “Under The Influence”, CBC Radio to tell us about “Harvesting the Power of Storytelling”.

We head Back To Our Roots-“The Weed Fair”  in the MNP Theatre for the morning welcoming Dr. Jeanette Gaultier, Weed Specialist with Manitoba Agriculture to give us and update on the Weed Survey and More.  Directly following Dr. Rob Gulden, Professor at the University of Manitoba will give us “The Cost of Simplicity in Weed Management Programs”.  At 10:15 am Dr. Neil Harker, Research Scientist, Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada will present on “Integrated Weed Control”.  Closing off the morning sessions in the MNP theatre is Tom Wolf, Owner of Agrimetrix Research & Training.  Tom will discuss “Sprayers and the Unfolding Spraying Technology Revolution”.

At 12:00 pm, in the MNP theatre, Donalee Jones, Senior Producer, Great Tastes of Manitoba will deliver a cooking demonstration.  The afternoon sessions will focus on “Let’s Talk Beef”. Peter Manness, Farm Management Consultant, MNP, LLP will give us an update on Risky Business.  Directly following, Shawn Cabak, Farm Production Extension Specialist-Livestock, Manitoba Agriculture will give an update on “How to Extend Your Grazing Season in Manitoba”.  At 2:00 pm Dr. Roy Lewis, DVM, MERICK, Animal Health will report on “Antibiotic Usage and Practical Uses of Pain Control”.  Closing out the day, Brian Perillat, Manager and Senior Analyst, Canfax will present on” Record Rally, Record Decline – Now What?”
