Volatility seems to be the new norm in today’s farming environment. Extremes from weather events, trade disputes and fluctuating prices have everyone in the farming world on edge. Join Darren as he discusses ways for producers to take back control and find profit while managing risk in these wild times. Now more than ever is the time to make smart choices on cropping options, costs of production, and re-investment decisions on your farm!

Neil will discuss the challenges faced by Canada in terms of market access into various markets including China, India, and the European Union. There will be a discussion on how arbitrary these matters can seem and how politics are playing a large role in shaping whether or not there is market access. The discussion will focus on shorter-term, medium-term and longer-term challenges and/or opportunities.

Farm founders are living longer. Farm land is worth millions. Farm families are fighting over different expectations of how to transition farm assets. It’s time for a mindset shift in agriculture. Financial transparency is key. Attitudes and intentions need to be shared openly for each family member to have success. Communication and clarity are key issues for family harmony. What does fairness look like to you on your farm? Come glean some new approaches from Elaine. For more info please go to: https://www.bdo.ca/en-ca/industries/agriculture/overview/

Scott will discuss the world perspective and definition of biological and Biological stimulants and their effects and use in agriculture. He will outline briefly what he has researched across western Canada, both at his independent replicated trial research sites and through ground proofing on the farm. He will discuss how this can be properly addressed and assessed, using one biological product and one biological stimulant product as examples to show how these material can be successfully and properly introduced and used at the farm production level. Scott will have just returned from the 4th world congress on biologicals held in Barcelona, Spain in November 2019 and will share any insights he gained from that conference.

All plants require 17 essential nutrients (primary, secondary, micro) for maximum growth and development. Nutrient uptake and amounts required vary based on plant species, nutrient solubility, crop yield goals, and environment. Applying too much of one nutrient may affect the plants’ ability to fully utilize another nutrient, thereby effecting balance within the plant. Growers typically take care of nitrogen requirements followed closely by phosphorus, but tend to neglect many of the other required nutrients (potassium, micros). Nutrient balance can be achieved through careful consideration and analysis of soil and tissue tests, fertility programs (pre-plant, at-planting, in-season), fertilizer materials used, and targeted yield goals. Understanding these factors coupled with successful implementation can result in realized maximum genetic potential for crop in your farming operations.

Join Dan Aberhart to hear more about the 5 year journey to bring a brand new product to market that has had a notable impact on not only the conversation around elemental sulphur but on sustainability in agriculture. What started out as a bit of a head scratcher for some people quickly turned into a “no brainer” for many producers, agronomists, and retailers, as the business grew and brought extreme value to urban centres and the producers who have benefited from the price, agronomic, logistic, and even environmental benefits from this new simple but brilliant solution to sulphur. Hear the story of how an outlier came to be a force in fertility, where it’s going in the future, and what it can do for your farm.
